Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a series of milestones at the Carriage & Wagon Workshop in New Bongaigaon, aimed at strengthening modernization, safety standards and operational efficiency in railway maintenance.
According to a press release issued by NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the workshop has successfully initiated Mid-Life Rehabilitation (MLR) work for Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches. The development is expected to improve passenger comfort, operational safety and the reliability of modern coaching stock.
The release stated that the first MLR coach is presently in the final stage of completion and is expected to be turned out shortly, marking a significant milestone for the workshop.
In another development, the New Bongaigaon workshop has installed and commissioned an LHB Bogie Load Testing facility. With the new facility, all critical bogie parameters under load conditions can now be checked and verified before dispatch, ensuring higher reliability, quality assurance and enhanced safety standards for overhauled LHB bogies.
The workshop has also operationalized a shot blasting machine for LHB bogie frames and bolsters. The mechanized shot blasting process is expected to improve surface finish quality while contributing to better maintenance standards and operational efficiency.
