
Putting all efforts to restore damaged lines, says official
Guwahati, May 18 (MExN): Restoration work has been completed in about 12 locations along the Lumding- Badarpur Hill Section of Lumding division of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone where railway connectivity was snapped due to landslides and water logging.
According to a press release from the NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi De on May 18, the railways has put all its efforts in restoring the damaged line and re-starting the train services to South Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram.
Within the last few days, landslides have been reported in around 58 locations along the Railway alignment, it said.
As per the release, the NFR initiated restoration by mobilising men, material and machinery led by Railway's skilled team of engineers, officers and staff.
Efforts are to assist movement of railway staff to reach out to the affected areas so that restoration work can be completed in the least possible time. Technical team of the NFR zone which has been deployed for quick restoration of this section is well versed with the terrain and is capable to work in these demanding conditions of the Northeast region, it said.
The stranded railway passengers who were successfully evacuated from this region have also praised the railways while NFR along with RailTel also ensured availability of internet connectivity for these stranded passengers, it added.
Meanwhile, the CRPO informed that the NFR has also refunded the ticket fares to the affected passengers. Refund amounting to more than Rs 13.5 lakh has already been made for 1,678 passengers till now and the remaining affected passengers can claim their refunds on IRCTC website (for e-tickets) and at PRS counters of the concerned stations (for window tickets), it added.
