Maligaon, August 2 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the cancellation, rescheduling and regulation of several trains due to ongoing restoration work near New Harangajao station, where railway tracks on Line-1 and Line-2 were affected by track settlement.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the railway said train operations over the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section are continuing through Line-3 under enhanced safety measures while restoration work is in progress.
According to the revised schedule, Train No. 15617 Guwahati-Dullabcherra Express (Aug. 3), Train No. 15618 Dullabcherra-Guwahati Express (Aug. 4), Train No. 15615 Guwahati-Silchar Express (Aug. 3) and Train No. 15616 Silchar-Guwahati Express (Aug. 4) have been cancelled.
The railway has also rescheduled Train No. 15650 Narangi-Agartala Express to depart at 10.30 pm on Aug. 3; Train No. 15649 Agartala-Narangi Express at 11.30 pm on Aug. 3; Train No. 15609 Guwahati-Sairang Express at 11.30 pm on Aug. 3; Train No. 15610 Sairang-Guwahati Express at 9.30 pm on Aug. 3; Train No. 15611 Rangiya-Silchar Express at 11.30 pm on Aug. 3; Train No. 15612 Silchar-Rangiya Express at 5 am on Aug. 4; Train No. 20501 Agartala-Anand Vihar Terminal Tejas Express at 11 pm on Aug. 3; and Train No. 14037 Silchar-New Delhi Poorvottar Sampark Kranti Express at 4.10 am on Aug. 4.
Besides, Train No. 15645 Charlapalli-Silchar Express, which commenced its journey on Aug. 1, and Train No. 12501 Kolkata-Agartala Garib Rath Express, which commenced its journey on Aug. 2, will be regulated en route, it said.
NFR advised passengers to check the latest train schedules before commencing their journey.
RPF rescues 11, seizes contraband worth Rs 1.5 lakh
Meanwhile, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) conducted 16 operations across its jurisdiction on July 28 and 29, rescuing vulnerable persons, apprehending offenders, recovering contraband and stolen property, and providing medical assistance to passengers.
According to an NFR statement, RPF personnel saved the life of an elderly woman travelling by Train No. 15701 at Purnea railway station by ensuring her timely hospitalisation. In another incident, they provided medical assistance to an ailing passenger travelling on Train No. 15743 at Gangarampur railway station.
As part of its drive against illegal transportation of prohibited substances, the RPF recovered 200 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup worth about Rs 44,000 from an unclaimed consignment at Rangiya railway station. In separate operations at Barsoi, New Jalpaiguri and Kishanganj railway stations, it also seized 119 bottles of illicit liquor valued at around Rs 28,000. The recovered items were handed over to the Excise and police authorities for further legal action.
The force also apprehended six offenders, including five accused in theft cases and one railway ticket tout. During the operations, it recovered five stolen mobile phones valued at about Rs 72,000 and railway tickets worth around Rs 5,000, which were handed over to the concerned authorities along with the accused.
In humanitarian operations, the RPF rescued 11 vulnerable persons, including 10 minors—seven boys and three girls—and a destitute woman from Tangla, Barpeta Road, Guwahati, Kishanganj and New Jalpaiguri railway stations. The minors were handed over to their parents or the concerned Child Welfare Committees and Child Care Institutions, while the woman was reunited with her elder brother.
The RPF, along with the Engineering Department, also carried out an anti-encroachment drive at Katihar railway station and removed unauthorised structures erected on railway land adjoining the boundary wall of the 109-acre Koshi Green Golf Club.
The statement said the value of the recovered contraband, stolen property and railway tickets was approximately Rs 1.50 lakh, adding that the operations reflected the force's continued commitment to passenger safety, crime prevention, protection of railway property and humanitarian service.
