Maligaon, September 17 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on Thursday commenced Swachhata Hi Sewa 2026, Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 and Special Campaign 6.0 under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat” with a Swachhata Pledge-taking ceremony at Dr Bhupen Hazarika Sabhagriha in front of the General Manager's Office at Maligaon.

NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, along with senior officials and staff of NFR headquarters, participated in the ceremony and took the Swachhata Pledge, reaffirming the railway's commitment to cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation and active public participation.

The Swachhata Hi Sewa 2026 campaign will be observed from September 17, with a series of cleanliness, sanitation and awareness activities being organised across NFR, culminating in the observance of Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2.

The campaign will cover stations, trains, workshops, railway colonies, offices and other railway establishments, with emphasis on cleanliness, sustainability, hygiene and public awareness.

Throughout the campaign, NFR will organise activities under the theme “Swachhotsav”, including intensive cleanliness drives at station premises, tracks, railway colonies and offices, awareness campaigns for passengers and local communities, interactive sessions and workshops for railway staff, cleanliness pledges, and special initiatives for identification, segregation and disposal of unserviceable materials.

The NFR Construction Organisation is also participating in the campaign. General Manager, NFR Construction, Ashish Bansal, along with senior officials, took the Swachhata Pledge at the office premises. Similar activities are being organised at various offices and project locations under the Construction Organisation.

All five NFR divisions -- Katihar, Alipurduar, Rangiya, Lumding and Tinsukia -- are conducting cleanliness drives and awareness programmes at railway stations, offices and other premises.

Senior officials and staff are participating through pledge-taking and awareness activities, while passengers and members of the public are also being encouraged to join the campaign and promote collective responsibility for clean and hygienic railway premises.

The campaign will further encourage participation from passengers, railway employees and local communities through awareness activities and public engagement programmes.

According to NFR, such initiatives will reinforce the message that maintaining cleanliness at railway premises is a collective responsibility requiring regular participation and awareness.

Through coordinated participation across its headquarters, five divisions and Construction Organisation, NFR is undertaking Swachhata Hi Sewa 2026 as a collective cleanliness and awareness campaign aimed at strengthening cleanliness practices and encouraging sustained public participation.

The activities leading up to Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2 will further reinforce the importance of maintaining clean, hygienic and sustainable railway premises.
