NFR carries out 10-day intensive safety drive

Maligaon, June 8 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has concluded a 10-day intensive safety drive aimed at bolstering track infrastructure and operational reliability, with a focus on inspecting points and crossings across its various divisions.

Launched on May 29 and concluded on June 7, the safety drive saw direct involvement from NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, along with senior officials from the Engineering and Signal & Telecommunication departments. The inspections were conducted jointly by the departments, targeting random locations based on past safety audits and previous inspection reports.

A central focus of the initiative was the monitoring and measurement of the toe load of Elastic Rail Clip (ERC) fittings. These clips are critical in securing rails to sleepers, and the toe load ensures their performance under dynamic train loads. Officials said that regular monitoring of this parameter is essential for maintaining track geometry and minimizing risks of rail displacement and derailments.

As part of the drive, the General Manager also carried out a surprise inspection at Kamakhya railway station and its depot. During the visit, he reviewed the condition of the points and crossings, paying close attention to ERC toe load measurements. He highlighted the importance of monsoon preparedness and urged field staff to adopt heightened maintenance protocols and remain vigilant to ensure the safety and continuity of train operations.

The railway said that all inspection data are being recorded digitally and monitored through a centralized platform to ensure transparency and timely corrective measures.
“This safety initiative underscores NFR’s commitment to preventive maintenance and technical precision,” the release stated, “ensuring a safer railway network for both passenger and freight movement.”
