Maligaon, July 6 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully completed a significant yard layout correction at Fakiragram (FKM) station under the Alipurduar division, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and streamlining train handling. The modernization work was completed on July 2.
According to the NFR, the yard correction included intricate modifications in the Panel Interlocking (PI) system, which was originally commissioned in 2005. The updated system is expected to facilitate smoother arrival and departure of trains, particularly in the UP direction, and reduce congestion at the station.
A statement from the NFR said the team carried out the project with "exemplary dedication and expertise," integrating 782 new electrical contacts and optimizing 28 existing routes, while introducing three additional routes. Signal and telecommunication infrastructure were also upgraded, including the provision of two points, four upgraded track circuits, and the installation of a new high-gain main signal.
The modernization is projected to improve punctuality, ensure safer train operations, and provide greater operational flexibility for both passenger and freight services.
“This milestone reflects NFR’s unwavering focus on modernization and continuous enhancement of its infrastructure to better serve passengers and freight operations,” the statement added.
