MALIGAON, JUNE 18 (MExN): General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction), Arun Kumar Chaudhary, conducted an extensive inspection of the Araria–Galgalia New Broad Gauge Line project on June 16. The inspection covered the newly laid section between Araria and Thakurganj under the Katihar Division in Bihar.
Lok Sabha MP from Araria, Pradeep Kumar Singh, and senior railway officials accompanied the GM during the inspection. A high-speed trial run at 120 kmph was successfully conducted, highlighting the track’s readiness and build quality.
The 110.75-km Araria–Galgalia BG line, spanning from Araria Court to Thakurganj, is targeted for completion within 2025. The GM reviewed the infrastructure works through a window trailing inspection. Sections from Araria–Araria Court–Rahamatpur (8.24 km) and Pawakhali–Thakurganj (23.24 km) were commissioned in April and November 2024, respectively. The remaining 79.27-km Rahamatpur–Pawakhali section is now pending commissioning to complete the project.
The project includes construction of 64 major bridges, 264 minor bridges, and 15 railway stations, reflecting its engineering scale and complexity.
Once completed, the railway line is expected to improve connectivity in remote and underserved areas of Bihar and enhance integration with the national railway grid. It is also expected to promote regional development by improving passenger and freight movement, boosting tourism and trade, and strengthening cross-border connectivity with Nepal.
NFR said it remains committed to completing the project on time while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
