NFR GM meets Manipur Guv, CM to review rail connectivity

Maligaon, September 2 (MExN): General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chetan Kumar Shrivastava met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Lok Bhavan in Manipur on September 1 and discussed strengthening rail connectivity and improving railway services in the state.

The discussions covered passenger convenience and freight movement, security infrastructure and further development of railway services and infrastructure in Manipur, NFR said in a statement.

Shrivastava also met Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the CM Secretariat. Senior officials of the state government and NFR attended the meeting, which focused on railway connectivity, infrastructure and passenger services.

The meeting discussed measures to ensure smooth and regular operation of passenger train services between Jiribam and Khongsang, with emphasis on providing reliable and convenient rail services to people in the region.

The feasibility of establishing direct rail connectivity between Manipur and Guwahati was also discussed. Such a link would improve connectivity with Guwahati, a major urban and commercial centre, and provide greater convenience to passengers, the statement said.

The meeting also reviewed the need to improve road connectivity between Vangaichungpao and the National Highway, besides strengthening security infrastructure for safer and more efficient railway operations.

Measures for efficient handling and management of freight traffic at Khongsang Terminal were also discussed to facilitate smoother movement of goods and strengthen the state's logistics network.

The introduction and operationalisation of Roll-on/Roll-off (RO-RO) services at the terminal was also deliberated upon to facilitate the movement of goods and vehicles through rail-based transportation.

The current status and progress of the Jiribam-Imphal New Railway Line Project were reviewed, with emphasis on expediting ongoing works and maintaining steady progress towards completion of the strategically important project.

The discussions reaffirmed NFR's commitment to strengthening railway infrastructure, improving passenger and freight services, enhancing security and supporting the socio-economic development of Manipur through better rail connectivity, the statement added.
