Maligaon, September 26 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager, Anshul Gupta held a review meeting with the Members of Parliament (MPs) whose constituencies are served by Alipurduar and Katihar divisions, at New Jalpaiguri on September 26.
Altogether, 11 MPs were present including John Barla, Union Minister of State of Minority Affairs, GoI, MPs of Rajya Sabha Rwngwra Narzary (Assam) and Shanta Chhetri (West Bengal); MPs of Lok Sabha Dulal Chandra Goswami (Katihar), Santosh Kumar (Purnia), Pradeep Kumar Singh (Araria), Debasree Chaudhuri (Raiganj), Khagen Murmu (Maldaha Uttar), Raju Bista (Darjeeling), Dr Jayanta Kumar Roy (Jalpaiguri), Dr Sukanta Majumdar (Balurghat). Senior railway officials from Katihar, Alipurduar divisions of NFR and from Headquarters also attended the meeting.
A press release from Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR stated that the GM Anshul Gupta highlighted various ongoing developmental and survey works being carried out by NFR with specific reference to areas under Alipurduar and Katihar divisions. He mentioned that NFR has given emphasis on faster adoption of PM Gati Shakti in all the states for handling of both outward and inward traffic. He said that more and more Kisan Rails are being operated to export the local produces outside the state.
Gupta also informed about the Intrusion Detection System to be introduced within NFR to avert possibility of train-elephant collision. He further informed regarding implementation of one station one product at various stations over NFR to help the local entrepreneur to showcase and sell the products and crafts of local area. The GM also explained the members present about various initiatives being taken to further promote the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO world heritage site.
The MPs also flagged off a new tri-weekly AC passenger train from New Jalpaiguri station. The new AC passenger train with Vistadome coach will run between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling and will be helpful to fulfil the demand of tourists visiting this area.
