NFR intensifies safety measures amid heavy rains

Maligaon, June 2 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has stepped up safety and monitoring efforts to maintain uninterrupted train services across the North Eastern region as heavy monsoon rains continue to impact the area’s rugged terrain and vulnerable infrastructure.

In a statement, the NFR said it is deploying stationary watchmen at all critical locations, including the Lumding–Badarpur hill section and multiple sites across Tripura. Regular patrolling and infrastructure inspections are underway, while senior officials, including the Additional General Manager and Divisional Railway Managers, are personally supervising operations.

Trolley patrolling by officers is being conducted alongside field visits by senior officers, who are monitoring vulnerable sites to ensure swift response to any developing risks.

To further bolster safety, the railway is also leveraging advanced technology. Drone-based LiDAR mapping, high-resolution aerial imaging, and electromagnetic surveys are being used across an 80-kilometer stretch of the Lumding–Badarpur section to detect underground faults and waterlogging. Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) has also been introduced at select tunnel locations to improve structural monitoring during peak rainfall periods.

“The NFR remains committed to maintaining safe and reliable rail connectivity in the region despite the challenging weather conditions,” said Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR.
