NFR launches Amritsar–NJP Amrit Bharat Express

Maligaon, May 14 (MExN): Indian Railways has introduced the regular weekly service of the Amrit Bharat Express between Amritsar and New Jalpaiguri to enhance connectivity between North India and North Bengal.

According to a press release issued by Northeast Frontier Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Amrit Bharat Express from Amritsar Junction was flagged off on May 14 by Ravneet Singh from Amritsar station.

Train no. 14664/14663 (Amritsar–New Jalpaiguri–Amritsar) will operate on a weekly basis, departing every Thursday from Amritsar and every Saturday from New Jalpaiguri. The release stated that the service is expected to benefit passengers travelling between Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal by improving rail connectivity and providing a convenient travel option.

Train no. 14664 will depart from Amritsar every Thursday at 12:45 pm with effect from May 14 and reach New Jalpaiguri at 4:15 am on Saturday. In the return direction, train no. 14663 will depart from New Jalpaiguri every Saturday at 8:00 am with effect from May 16 and arrive at Amritsar at 2:20 am on Monday.

During its journey in both directions, the train will halt at stations including Siliguri Junction, Bagdogra, Araria, Raghopur, Sakri Junction, Raxaul Junction, Narkatiaganj Junction, Gorakhpur, Barhni, Gonda Junction, Sitapur Junction, Bareilly, Saharanpur Junction and Ludhiana Junction, among others.

The Amrit Bharat Express will consist of 22 coaches and will pass through the newly constructed Araria–Galgalia route, providing rail connectivity to sections of North Bengal and Bihar, the release stated.

The railway authorities also said the train service is expected to strengthen trade, tourism and cultural exchange among the states along its route, while facilitating the movement of people, agricultural produce, commercial goods and small businesses.
