Guwahati, June 6 (MExN): Under the theme, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution,’ the World Environment Day was observed all over Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on June 5.
To mark the occasion, NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava planted saplings in the lawns of Guwahati Railway Greens, Amingaon in North Guwahati along with other senior officials from its Maligaon Headquarter.
A booklet on Environment and Housekeeping Management initiatives was also released by the General Manager on the occasion, informed a press release. Tree plantation along with various other awareness drives were also carried out in all the 5 divisions the NFR with participation of railway officials, it said.
Speaking on the occasion, Shrivastava said that the NFR taking multiple initiatives on all fronts to reduce adverse impact on environment.
As the NFR predominantly functions in the ecologically sensitive areas of NE, various initiatives like conserving green belt, afforestation, water conservation, solid waste management, railway electrification, energy conservation by using LED lights, initiatives for renewable energy, bio-friendly disposal of effluent etc are being taken up, he added
