MALIGAON, JULY 30 (MExN): In a tribute to iconic freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army), the Siliguri Diesel Loco Shed under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has repainted and rechristened one of its diesel locomotives in honour of India’s struggle for independence.
The WDP-4B diesel locomotive (No. 40023), a 4,500 horsepower engine equipped with advanced IGBT technology, has been given a new livery inspired by the tricolour and national flag motifs. The locomotive now serves as a moving emblem of patriotic pride and a tribute to the sacrifices made by Netaji and his INA.
NFR, which has been blending tradition with innovation across the Northeast, said the initiative reflects its commitment to preserving and celebrating India's rich historical legacy through everyday symbols of public transport. The newly decorated locomotive, apart from its regular duties, now functions as a visual reminder of India’s freedom movement and the courage of the men and women who contributed to it.
