NFR provides free meals to needy persons

The NFR has been distributing free meals to needy people in its zone in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Maligaon, April 12 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway has provided meals to at least 48000 needy people in various areas where it operates, a press release from the railway said.
The meals are being provided to members of the poorer sections of the society who lack the means to cope with the lockdown situation, the release issued by NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda stated.
As part of the mission, IRCTC provided nearly 11000 free meals till April 11 while other agencies provided about 38000 free meals. The meals were distributed by RPF by maintaining social distancing, it said.
On Saturday, the IRCTC in NFR provided 1295 meals to needy people which were distributed by RPF in Katihar, Rangiya and Lumding divisions, while various other organizations/NGOs also provided meals to more than 2750 persons at places like New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Samsi, Manihari, Alipurduar, New Coochbehar, New Bongaigaon, Azara, Changsari, Kamakhya, Guwahati, New Guwahati, Silchar, New Tinsukia and Dibrugarh station areas, the press release stated.
It also stated that social distancing and hygiene is being strictly observed during the distribution of food in order to minimise the chance COVID-19 contamination.
Stating that the railways have been providing meals to needy persons residing near railway areas to ensure that no-one remains hungry due to lockdown, the release stated that throughout the Indian Railways, more than 12,30,000 free meals were provided till Saturday.
In addition to this, the NFR has also been initiating in-house production of masks and hand sanitizers, the release from stated.
