NFR reports 10.681 million tonnes freight loading in 2024-25

Maligaon, April 13 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported a robust performance in freight transportation, loading 10.681 million tonnes (MT) of goods in the financial year 2024-25, marking a 4.3% increase over the previous year.

According to the NFR, 1.054 MT of freight was loaded in March 2025 alone. The railway zone recorded notable year-on-year growth across several key commodities. Cement loading increased by 9.6%, dolomite by 9.1%, fertilizers by 28.6%, and other goods by 9.6%. Potato loading surged by 54.5%, stone chips rose by 61.9%, and miscellaneous freight saw a 7.4% uptick compared to March 2024.

“The consistent growth in freight loading reflects the rising economic activity in the region,” the release stated. It added that the steady increase has significantly boosted NFR’s revenue and strengthened the region’s economic landscape.

NFR affirmed its ongoing commitment to technological advancement to enhance service reliability and efficiency. “NFR is tirelessly working round the clock to serve its customers and ensure the prompt delivery of essential commodities to end users,” the release said.
