Maligaon, April 21 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported a significant progress in freight operations and customer services during March 2026, driven by a series of initiatives aimed at improving logistics efficiency and strengthening supply chains.
According to an official press release, NFR operationalised the Gati Shakti Multi-modal Cargo Terminal of M/s Dalmia Cement (NorthEast) Ltd. at Habaipur station under Lumding Division for inward traffic from March 27.
Further, Baihata GCT under Rangiya Division has been permitted to handle outward traffic for 90 days from March 9 under revised freight rate provisions.
Under its Business Development Unit initiative, NFR also reported notable freight loading across divisions.
A total of 4.5 rakes (189 wagons) of potatoes were loaded from Dhupguri station under Alipurduar Division, generating revenue of Rs 0.76 crore while 6 rakes (252 wagons) of maize were transported from stations under Katihar Division to Bangladesh, earning Rs 0.55 crore, it highlighted.
Freight movement under Lumding Division also remained robust.
As per the release, 2,741 wagons of stone chips and 2,867 wagons of cement were transported, with cement alone generating Rs 11.52 crore in revenue. Additionally, 441 wagons of petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) contributed Rs 3.88 crore, while 107 wagons of bamboo and related products were also handled.
The Northeast Frontier Railway continues to focus on improving its freight services and customer interface while contributing significantly to the logistics and supply chain ecosystem of the region, it added.
