
Maligaon, September 3 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway, while conducting regular checks and drives within the zone between August 29 and 31 apprehended 11 persons involved in theft of passenger’s belongings.
During these checks at different stations and trains, they successfully recovered valuables worth approximately Rs. 1,74,600 from railway stations at Katihar, Lumding, New Haflong and Guwahati.
In an incident on August 29, RPF CPDS (Crime Prevention & Detection Squad) team of Katihar along with GRP/Katihar, during a routine check at Katihar railway station, apprehended 3 persons and recovered 3 mobile phones stolen from passengers worth Rs 32000 approximately. Later, the recovered mobile phones and the apprehended persons were handed over to Officer in Charge of GRP/Katihar for further necessary proceedings.
In another incident on August 31, RPF team of Guwahati conducted a checking drive at Guwahati railway station and apprehended 1 person with a bag containing one gold chain, one gold ring and one mobile phone and other valuables worth around Rs 60,600. The items were stolen from a passenger of train no.13175 (Sealdah - Silchar) Kanchanjungha Express. Later, the recovered items and the apprehended person was handed over to Officer in Charge of GRP/Guwahati for further necessary proceedings.
A press release from the NFR informed that railway passengers can dial 139 (Toll-free) if they come across any problem during their train journey.
