NFR undertakes various activities

Maligaon, May 26 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is conducting a comprehensive cleanliness drive from May 25 to 27. The cleanliness drives are carried out at railway stations and in the surrounding areas, with involvement of local communities and NGOs.

IRCTC is promoting use of non-plastic, eco-friendly, biodegradable cutlery through an awareness campaign. Additional waste segregation bins are being installed to improve waste sorting infrastructure and passengers are being encouraged to participate actively. Railway staffs are being sensitized on proper waste segregation practices, with a particular emphasis on managing organic waste and reducing plastic usage. 

As part of World Environment Day 2025, NFR undertook several impactful initiatives across its divisions to promote environmental awareness and sustainability. The campaign was inaugurated at the DRM office in Tinsukia with a pledge ceremony, followed by a walkathon to advocate against single-use plastic. 

At New Alipurduar station, awareness drives on plastic waste management and proper use of waste segregation bins were held on May 24 and 25. Additionally, a door-to-door campaign was conducted in Alipurduar Railway Colonies to educate residents on the harmful effects of plastic and encourage eco-friendly practices. 

Simultaneously, World Environment Day 2025 campaign was launched at Dibrugarh Workshop (DBWS) on May 22, followed by awareness drives through May 24 to educate staff on the hazards of single-use plastics and promote sustainable alternatives. Also a cultural and educational dimension to the campaign, Nukkad Nataks were held by the Divisional Railway Hospital at Tinsukia and Dibrugarh, emphasizing waste reduction and segregation.
