NGBF condemns ‘unruly’ treatment of public leaders

Dimapur, January 8 (MExN): The Nagaland Gaonbura (village chief) Federation has expressed dismay over what it termed as humiliation meted out to an NGBF official on the night of January 4 at Thilixu CFSB office belonging to NSCN (K) Khango & Isak.

According to a press release on Sunday, the NGBF official, on learning of the volatile situation evolving within NSCN (K) camp, reached the CFSB office along with other leaders from various civil frontal organisations with the intention of diffusing tension. However, “without showing any courtesy or effort to ascertain the purpose of our visit, the cadres present threatened the leaders by pointing the barrel of the guns at them.  Abusive and intimidating languages were hurled upon the leaders and forcefully evicted them from the office premises at gunpoint,” the release stated, while adding that such unruly and violent treatment meted out to the public leaders was unwanted and uncalled for.

The NGBF condemned the conduct of the cadres and also expressed great displeasure on the authority under which such an ugly incident could take place. “Those misguided who are responsible for such an act should be properly dealt with by the mandated organisation. The Nagas longing for peace and tranquility cannot accommodate such elements in our society,” it asserted.

It is the responsibility of the right thinking citizens and civil organisations to discourage such a shameful act, it said, while extending support to those organisations who have taken bold steps to check such elements in society.
