DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 8 (MExN): Co-ordination committee of tribe hohos, CSOs, various committees and mass based organisations under the umbrella of NGBF has reminded the Naga public that the proposed 6am-4pm Nagaland bandh on February 11 is on schedule.
A press release issued by media cell, co-ordination committee informed that the bandh has been called to protest the planned passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) 2016 in the Rajya Sabha which is unconstitutional and against the sentiment of the whole Northeast people.
It asserted that the CAB issue strikes at the very heart of indigenous existence and therefore is imperative that all concerned Nagas welcome the bandh so as to show deep resentment to the Central government; that “our right to existence cannot be toyed with.”
It also stated that the bandh has been called to attract the attention of the Central government on the 7 decades old Naga issue, that it should be settled before the Lok Sabha election, 2019, as per the "Election for Solution" slogan of the BJP during the 2018 Nagaland Assembly election.
The co-ordination committee has also requested all tribe hohos to take responsibility for their own districts and said they free to implement their own modalities in carrying out the bandh.
Press and media, medical and emergency services, police, district administration, army, paramilitary forces, students and teachers on examination, train and flight passengers, pre engagement programmes like weddings, etc, have been exempted from the bandh.
The members of the NSCN (IM) attending their National Hoho to be held on the day of the bandh are also exempted from the purview of the bandh.
It also stated that the respective tribe hohos are free to implement their own modalities in carrying out the bandh.
Meanwhile, the co-ordination committee has requested the Naga people to respond to the call of Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF) for prayer and fasting on February 10, Sunday, for solution to the Naga political issue.
