DIMAPUR, JULY 24 (MExN): The Nagaland NGOs Forum (NNF) has written to the Nagaland Chief Minister calling for enhancement of NGOs registration renewable period from 2 years to 5 years. In a letter to the CM, the NNF said that the societies registration renewal period which is now served only for two years is inexpedient as the system of renewal process should not go along in line with commercial or trade license as it is non-profit in nature. It further said that to check and detach non functional NGOs by means of reducing renewal period to 2 years is not a proper mechanism and unfair to all functional BGOs who are assisting the government in multifarious activities. “Due to the limited period of renewal, the functional NGOs face certain legal constraints in many community based long term projects of both governmental and non-governmental sectors,” it added. The NNF asked the CM to deliberate the matter in the coming Assembly session and legislate an Act to enhance the NGO regulation period to 5 years.
