NHM employees to agitate for nonpayment of salary

DIMAPUR, JULY 16 (MExN): National Health Mission Employees Association of Nagaland (NEA-N) in an emergency meeting has resolved to go on a phase wise agitation if their pending salaries is not released by July 22, 2016 by the Finance Department, Government of Nagaland.

A press statement from NEA-N said the phase wise agitation would begin with mass-casual leave on July 25 followed by total cease of work from August 1 onwards.

Asserting that depriving the employees of their salaries is a blatant violation of human rights, the Association said it will resort to any means available to secure justice for all its members.

It noted that despite several reminders from the Central government to release pending funds, the State Finance Department is yet to release funds amounting to Rs 40 crore from last financial year 2015-16.

This is severely impacting programme implementation in the state as well as leaving employees without salaries for several months, it explained.

Lamenting that this is not the first time the FD has failed to release salaries on time, the Association said, “In fact every year, the same problem arises, which is very disheartening and de-motivating as health care is a basic essential service for the general public.”

In this connection, the Association has appealed to all concerned citizens and associations/unions of Nagaland to extend their support and co-operation. It also expressed regret for any inconveniences that may arise due to the proposed agitation.
