NIC launches official website

In a significant development, the Nagaland Information Commission (NIC) has formally launched its website at the brief function held here this afternoon.

Now, by logging on to www.nlsic.gov.in, the activities of NIC and Right to Information Act in Nagaland can be accessed from any corner of the world.

Chief Information Commissioner P Talitemjen Ao, IAS told mediapersons that the newly launched website will be upgraded from time to time, adding that it will try to make it “user friendly” so that everyone can easily access it.

The website contains all the relevant information relating to RTI Act, link to State Information Commissions, function  NIC, PIOs, FAQs, notifications, RTI disclosures, appeals and decisions of NIC, RTI cost and appeal rules, complaints and orders, circulars, meeting minutes, contact numbers etc.

So far, five establishments, viz Chief Election Officer, Department of Information and Public Relation, Excise, Rural Development and NIC have submitted their RTI disclosures that are placed on the website.

In this RTI disclosure under Sec 4 of RTI Act 2005, it reflects all the relevant fact regarding the objective of the concerned departments, schemes, programmes, implementation, strength of staff, salary of the employees etc. The Chief Information Commissioner said that other departments are in the process of preparation in this respect.

The NIC would soon materialize a video conferencing facility including a house for conducting hearings, Talitemjen said.

The Nagaland Information Commission has submitted proposal for the creation of post and the decision is awaited.  At present a limited number of staff are working in the NIC apart from three Commissioners.

So far, the NIC has received one appeal and seven complaints. He stated that many people are still ignorant about the application procedure in the state. The website was designed by Computer Edge, Dimapur.

Nagaland Information Commission was constituted on March 14 2006, vide Government Order N0. AR- 3/ Gen-147/2005 on the recommendation of the appointment Committee constituted in terms of Section 15(3) of the Right to Information Act. 2005 and under the provision of Section 15(1) & (2).
