Niki Sumi-led NSCN (K) raises concern on  unauthorized raids and illegal detention

Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): The Niki Sumi-led NSCN (K) on Thursday issued a statement against the manner in which the Indian security forces are allegedly ‘repeatedly threatening’ the Naga people’s desire for peace by conducting unauthorized raids and illegal detention of its members.

In a press release issued by its MIP, the NSCN/GPRN questioned whether such illegalities are being done under the directive of the Government of India (GoI) or whether the GoI has lost control of its security forces, who are acting independently of all Indian government institutions.

“The peace that has been earnestly sought by all sections of Naga society is being slowly eroded and shred to pieces by the security forces,” it claimed.

It highlighted some of the unauthorized arrest of its members during the past few months, stating that 20 members had been arrested in Dimapur, 8 in Kohima, 7 in Peren, 6 in Phek, 6 in Tuensang, 2 in Mon and 1 in Zunheboto.

It accused the Indian security forces of violating the sanctity of the Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) on numerous occasions and said that it is not in consonance with the clarion call of the GoI and the Nagas for an amiable and inclusive Naga political solution.

Physical torture and detention of CFSB members cannot be left unmentioned, it stated.

While conveying its ‘unwavering commitment’ to peace, it cautioned that if any untoward incident that hampers the peace process arises, then the onus would solely lie with GoI.

“All concerned civil societies, government agencies and public in general must be informed of the highhandedness of Indian security personnel, how they are flexing their military might and instilling fear psychosis in the minds of the people at this crucial juncture when all concerned are expected to be equally committed towards long lasting peace,” it asserted.
