Niuland, January 6 (MExN): The 28th biennial conference of Niuland Area Students’ Union concluded with Zhaleo Rio, IAS (Retd), Advisor, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs Department, Government of Nagaland, as the special guest of the closing ceremony held at S Vihuto village, Niuland on January 6.
On education sector, Zhaleo opined that government institutions or schools have the best qualified teachers and requested the student community to attend government schools for the better.
He however, lamented of ghost employees or teachers in certain pockets and that the concerned department is in the process to initiate positive changes, a press release received here stated.
The Advisor revealed that unemployment is enormous in the state and called upon students to be aware of meritocracy which has been introduced to select and employ the most capable candidates in the state. He also stressed that leaders should organise necessary career guidance for students and guide them for higher education. Further, he affirmed that students should be dedicated, God fearing and work hard to achieve their goal through sweat or perspiration.
“We, especially students and youngsters, get sandwiched between our culture & western/modern culture but we should learn that we must keep track of our culture and our identity,” he said while adding, “students are the future leaders who will contribute towards building society.”
Zhaleo asserted that students should be allowed to pursue their studies with commitment, choose their interest and right job-oriented courses where, with different potentialities, some will strive to be officers, politicians, medical doctors, teachers, entrepreneurs, etc and parents play pivotal role during the early stages of children's education.
Sharing his view on creation of Niuland district, Zhaleo stated that it was from imperative need and administrative convenience that the district came into being while adding “many developments are in the pipeline in the 'Land of diversity', a name coined by Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland.
He requested leaders to be inclusive, united and visionary stating that leaders who divide people for vested interest are fake leaders driven by misconceptions, misguidance, poisoning and polluting the minds of people. While advising people to be broadminded and wise, he pointed out that Nagas claim “we have no beggars on the roads but in fact, we have very expensive beggars,” Zhaleo urged “everyone should learn to coexist by accommodating one another and be assets to the Naga community”, including students, because they will have to face and speak the truth for future generations of the Naga society.
