Dimapur, March 13 (MExN): In response to a news item in regard to the election of Pangti Village Council chairman, Parliamentary Secretary Nkhao Lotha clarified that no election has been held till date although a date for the same was fixed on February 20, 2006. This election could not be held as scheduled due to interference from some individuals, and was postponed on the 19th vide a letter from the ACS and Commissioner, Nagaland, the Parliamentary Secretary stated.
After the postponement, while the EAC of Sungro was on his way to Wokha on the morning of February 20, 2006, one Nbemo Ngullie and his party forcefully brought back the officer to Pangti and forced him to declare Ngullie as “elected unopposed,” Nkhao Lotha stated.
In this connection, the EAC lodged a complaint in PS Wokha as well as a representation to Deputy Commissioner of Wokha. In the complaint, the EAC stated that Nbemo Ngullie forced him to declare Ngullie as “elected unopposed”. Since this incident, no election of the council chairman post was held in spite of several orders issued by competent authority, ADC for DC on August 18, 2002 as well as a letter dated February 16, 2007 from the office of the Commissioner, Nagaland.
“Therefore Shri Nbemo Ngullie is advised not to mislead the public as the village council is an organ of the government and no election to such body is held without the approval and directions of the government. His claim as elected unopposed is nothing but false and misleading which comes out of his wild imagination” the Parliamentary Secretary added.
