DIMAPUR, JANUARY 21 (MExN): The Nagaland Law Students Federation (NLSF) has said that it is a matter of great concern that despite the attainment of 58 years of age, a lot still remains outstanding in the legal field to ensure that Nagaland is at par with the rest of the States.
“Evidently, the three most distinguished requirements at hand are Nagaland High Court, Directorate of Prosecution, and Government/Public Law College,” said a press release from the NLSF President, C Talimoa.
“It is astoundingly humbling and gratifying to acknowledge the fact that Nagas have introduced many brilliant minds and legal personnel ascending to the extent of being the Judge of the Supreme Court of India, Justice HK Sema. With utmost regard to the guardianship of the Gauhati High Court, it is further acknowledged that a separate fully fledged High Court is the need of the hour,” the NLSF said.
It stressed that Nagaland as a State is incomplete without a separate High Court and it should not be further procrastinated.
Further, the federation said that Section 25A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 which provides for the establishment of a Directorate of Prosecution is highly recommended for a prosperous litigation and judicature. The commendable services of the Prosecution and likes can be enhanced to a greater height by the establishment of a Directorate of Prosecution, it added.
Meanwhile, it pointed out that the three law colleges in Nagaland recognized by the Bar Council of India viz., Kohima Law College, Mokokchung Law College and City Law College, Dimapur are significantly providing quality legal education.
“They have been consistent in their commitment to promote legal education and secure society by producing many brilliant legal personalities. Thus, it is to be understood that establishing a Government/Public Law college in the State would not only serve the interest of the students community in general and the Law students in particular but would also be a sign of great progress in favour of the State,” the NLSF said.
It maintained that the notion of a more vibrant and stronger Nagaland can only be achieved at the cost of fulfilling these three eminent requirements. It is only then a new dawn on Nagaland will be witnessed, the federation stated.
