NLSF opposes Special Recruitment Drive, demands cancellation

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 27 (MExN): The Nagaland Law Students' Federation (NLSF) has voiced strong opposition to the special recruitment drive for 280 posts, as announced in a departmental notification dated August 20, 2024. The federation has extended its full support to the Nagaland Medical Students' Association, which has raised concerns over alleged irregularities and discriminatory practices related to the recruitment.

In a statement, the NLSF argued that the notification violates the fundamental rights guaranteed under Articles 14 and 16 of the Indian Constitution. Article 14 ensures equality before the law, while Article 16 provides for equal opportunities in public employment. The federation contended that the recruitment drive contradicts a previous departmental advertisement issued on August 4, 2020, which stipulated that all appointments would be temporary for 12 months or until direct recruitment through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), whichever occurred first, and that appointees would have no right to claim regularization of their services.

The NLSF expressed concern that appointments made without following due procedures could lead to further anomalies and deprive eligible candidates of justice. While acknowledging the department's decision to defer the special recruitment drive, the federation warned that it would not remain silent if the recruitment proceeds, as it would deny many eligible candidates equal opportunities.

The NLSF urged the authorities to cancel the proposed recruitment drive and to requisition the posts to the NPSC for an early examination, ensuring fairness and justice for all eligible candidates.
