NLSF President urges public to be aware of Fundamental Right

Mokokchung, September 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Law Students Federation (NLSF) President, C Talimoa Chishi urged the public “to be aware of the Fundamental Rights.” Chishi was speaking at a legal seminar conducted by MTBA Youth Department, A&B Youth Fellowship Crusader Club at Mizo Church, Sangtemla Ward, Mokokchung held on September 28.


The President of NLSF stated that the people of today’s generation are “battling for justice for their survival and existence. Therefore, it is vital to know once right as unless people know their rights, they can't move forward,” he said.


Speaking about the golden triangle between Article 14, Article 19 and Article 21, which talks about Equality before Law, Equal Protection of Law, Freedom of Speech and Expression and Protection of life and personal liberty respectively, he stated that Article 14 ensures fairness and equality. “It targets arbitrariness but supports reasonableness,” he maintained.Citing these three Articles, Chishi urged that “in a democratic state like ours, one needs to set a mindset, a mindset that believes in I believe, I have the right; you believe, you have the right, I will respect your right. Please respect my right.” “That is the strength and essence of being a true democracy,” he said.


Meanwhile, referring to Article 39 A, Equal Justice and free legal aid read with Section 357 (A) Cr.P. he stated that “indigent person has right to avail benefits of free legal aid and victims compensation schemes under section 357 A Cr.PC to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic and other disabilities.”Chishi further highlighting on Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005 said that “the Right to Information is a fundamental right within the meaning of Article 19 (1) (a) of the constitution.” “The state under Article 19 (2) of the constitution is, however, entitled to impose reasonable restrictions, inter alia, in the interest of the state,” he said.
