NMA for inclusive and just peace, not selective division

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 23 (MExN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) while standing by its commitment towards an ‘inclusive and just peace,’ has objected to the exclusion of some Naga civil society organization including the NMA by the State agencies and the Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks.

“We place on record our objection at this critical juncture on the policy of exclusion of civil society like the Naga Hoho (NH), the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), the Naga Students Federation (NSF) and the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) that have supported the peace process and peace dialogue for decades, by the State agencies and the Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks,” a press statement from the NMA stated on Wednesday.

While raising protest, the NMA appealed leaders of the different Naga political groups to come together in peace.

“As women and mothers who have suffered as victims of the conflict, yet made our contributions to peace making and peace building, we appeal to our leaders and brothers from different Naga Political groups to come together in peace and speak for a solution that brings sustainable peace to the Nagas and our children,” it stated.

The NMA also appealed to the State Government to impartially play its role of facilitators for peace by taking all Nagas forward.

It also urged the Interlocutor, who is also the Governor of Nagaland to “abstain from selective division of the Nagas and remember that Naga women’s voices must also be counted in the process of peace building.”

The NMA said the Nagas cannot afford another period of violence. “Let there be no more bloodshed and peace be brought through mutual respect and understanding,” it added.
