Nagaland Motorcycle Club (NMC) will be hosting the North East Riders Meet (NERM) 2022. It will be the 12 edition of the event, and second for Nagaland as host, which began in 2009 and has become a tradition with biker clubs from the region taking turns to host the event every year.

The NMC told a press conference today that the NERM was last held in 2019 in Vanzau Chalfilh, Mizoram’s, which saw some 1500 bikers assembling. It was not held in 2020 and 2021 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, the NMC said that they are expecting around 1500-2000 participants. While regional in concept, the event also attracts participants from other parts of the country and also from Nepal and Bhutan.

“The main purpose of NERM is about organizing a festival and bringing the Royal Enfield riding fraternity together, a time of bonding,” said the NMC. Besides, it said that the event bodes well for tourism in the NE and for the host states as the participants’ travel itinerary is not limited to attending the NERM alone as many of the riders stay on to explore the host state after the event.

The dates of the event will coincide with the Hornbill Festival with the NCM informing that it is scheduled from December 3-5. As a result, the annual Hornbill Riders’ Meet will merge with the NERM this year, it added. The host venue has not yet been decided but it was informed that it would either be in Chümoukedima or Dimapur.

“This will be the single biggest entity that will bring this many people to witness the ever popular Hornbill Festival of Nagaland and thus promote tourism,” the NMC said.

The NMC, established in November 2010, is one of the oldest motorcycle clubs in Nagaland. According to members, it was formed by like-minded persons, who have a passion for adventure and riding the Royal Enfield bike. It began with two chapters in Kohima and Dimapur and has today grown to four with the launching of Tuensang and Longleng chapters in 2017 and 2022, respectively.

It said, “Club bonding is maintained by carrying out annual rides within the state and beyond. Riding ethics is strictly maintained,” while stating that it seeks to promotes fraternity and charity. Generating awareness is also one of its primary intention, which it does often in coordination with government agencies and NGOs.
