NNC demands clarification on killings

Dimapur, May 1 (MExN): Reacting to write-ups in the media by the NSCN-IM MIP demanding “accordists may explain why they had to kill so many innocent Naga people who denounced the treacherous Shillong Accord,” the NNC laments that this “false allegations” have always been leveled against the NNC/FGN.

To prove on this point, “Thomas” from the NNC stated in a note produced what was alleged as an execution report of “C-in-C” of the NSCN “Brig.” Thungbo Heimi, dated March 11, 1980. The “report” of “Brig” Thungbo addressed to Th. Muivah, Isak Chishi Swu and SS Khaplang informed that “anti-nationalists” were arrested with some executed and others discharged from “national service.” The report highlighted 8 functionaries who were executed, 3 discharged and 2 disarmed. The report also informed of several other “arrests,” executions or discharge.

“The above mentioned document proves that the Naga leaders were not killed by the NNC/FGN but the NSCN army carried out the executions. But according to the statement of MIP of IM group accused the NNC/FGN for starting the fratricidal killings” the NNC stated and demanded that explanations be given for this matter. It stated that the executed NNC/FGN leaders were staying in “Eastern Nagaland” after returning from China in 1976 “saying that we will not accept the accord.” They were later killed by the NSCN, the NNC stated adding that “if the accord was the main factor for the contention among the Nagas, the leaders who denounced the accord should not be killed.”

If the accord was accepted by the NNC/FGN as accused by the NSCN-IM, the aspiration of the Naga people as a nation might be “buried or ended there” in 1975 and that the talks between the NSCN-IM and the GOI for integration or a special federal relationship might not arise today the NNC maintained. “The fight is going on unabated, and the ceaseless  false allegations leveling against the NNC/FGN by the NSCN-IM is only for more killing innocent Nagas which is absolutely contrary to Ino Isak’s announcement for peace and reconciliation” it asserted.

After the killings, the NSCN-IM submitted a “30-point competencies proposal” and “now they are demanding a special provision under the Indian constitution which clearly illustrated that they are trying to implement the accord or clause 13 of 16-point agreement and they became accordists by their own action.” On this the NSCN-IM MIP has to clarify ‘why they killed innocent Nagas in their interest of a special federal relationship with India.’
