‘No alteration of territorial integrity of Manipur under any circumstances’

Newmai News Network Imphal | July 25   The Manipur Government is firm on its stand not to allow any kind of alteration in the territorial integrity of Manipur under any circumstances.   Letpao Haokip, Spokesperson of the Manipur government said this at a press conference in Imphal today. He stated the State government is ready for an assembly session if the need arises. The government is determined not to allow any kind of autonomy to certain areas or section of the people as an outcome of the Indo-Naga Framework Agreement, the Spokesperson added. He also said the government will not tolerate any amendment to the State’s territory.   Haokip then appealed to the political parties not to politicise the issue and mislead the public which can hurt the sentiments of the people of the State. The present State government, he added, is clear on its stand to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur at any cost. He also appealed to the public not to panic and have faith with the government. He also gave assurance that the government will face all the issues and threats to the State and its people and sought cooperation from the public.   Responding to the accusation of Opposition Leader Okram Ibobi Singh regarding the non-extension of the Manipur Legislative Assembly session, Haokip said that the recently concluded two-day session was planned after a detailed meeting of the Business Advisory Committee. If there is a need for an Assembly session, the State government is ready to convene Special Session if the need arise, he added.   On the issue of Manipur University, Haokip said the government is trying to bring an amicable solution at the earliest to ensure that the academic careers of the students are not affected. With the constitution of the ‘Fact Finding Committee’, a reasonable and positive outcome will surely emerge, he opined.   The government Spokesperson then stated that no one is above the law and one cannot be punished without proven guilty. He further appealed to the public to have confidence and patience with the government in finding out the truth on the allegations leveled against the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University. He assured non-tolerance to anyone found guilty, irrespective of stature and position.
