There is no proposal under consideration of the Central Government to establish an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Nagaland; the Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.

The Minister of State in the Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar said this in written reply to query posed by Tokheho Yepthomi, Nagaland’s lone member in the Lower House of the Indian Parliament.

Meanwhile, in reply to another query from Yepthomi, the MoS alluded that only the State Government can give an estimate of the ‘time by which the medical college in Nagaland expected to be completed and become functional.’

The MoHFW administers a Centrally Sponsored Scheme namely, ‘Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals’ under which two medical colleges have been approved in Nagaland, the MoS said.

“As per the scheme guidelines, the State Government is the implementing agency and the planning, execution and commissioning of the projects is to be done by the State Government,” he added.

The Minister, however, informed that the Central Government regularly follows up with the State Government for expediting these works.
