DIMAPUR, AUGUST 16 (MExN): The All Nagaland Pre-Service Teachers Association (ANPSTA) has voiced its frustration over the lack of recruitment for primary teachers in Nagaland, stating that it has been eight years since the last open recruitment was conducted. The association highlighted that since the mandate requiring B.Ed and D.EL.ED qualifications for teachers was implemented, no new job postings for primary teachers have been advertised.
ANPSTA expressed its disappointment with the Department of School Education, accusing the department of insincerity and a lackadaisical attitude toward the recruitment process. They questioned whether the department has ill intentions to deprive trained, unemployed teachers of employment opportunities through open recruitment. The association pointed out that between 100 to 180 primary teachers retire annually and raised concerns about whether these vacant positions are being filled or deliberately left vacant.
The association noted that the establishment of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) had initially brought hope for diploma holders in various professions, including D.EL.ED trainees. However, they expressed disappointment that while posts for Hindi, drawing, and physical education teachers have been advertised multiple times, not a single primary teacher post has been advertised.
ANPSTA also urged the Department of School Education to consider age relaxation for future recruitment, highlighting that 15 percent of DIET trainees have already become overage, and 20 percent are on the verge of being overage due to the prolonged absence of recruitment.
