DIMAPUR: In a sign of gross negligence by government authorities, a village Government Primary School under Kiphire district has been closed down since August 16 due to the non-availability of teachers. According to information disclosed by the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), the Huronger Village Government Primary School falls under Kiphire D.I.S. A press communiqué issued by Tsointhe Sangtam, General Secretary, USSC, has warned authorities that unless minimum of four (4) Primary Teachers was provided to the Govt. Primary School Huronger Village by 26th September, the Education Department authorities would face severe consequences and for which the USSC should not be blamed under any circumstances.
It further warned that students’ would enforce necessary action against the departments’ authorities with effect from 1st October if the matter was not resolved.
As per the USSC version, the Huronger Village Education Committee (VEC) and Village Council had approached the Deputy Inspector of School Kiphire on several occasions for providing teachers in the village. But, no suitable action and corrective measure could be taken, it stated. The Huronger VEC and Village Council reportedly approached the Director of School Education, Nagaland. However, till date nothing concrete result could be given, it stated. “As a result, those ambitious and poor village students numbering more than 65 (Sixty Five) are going to lose their future due to suspension of school since August 2005”.
The USSC has blamed the random transfer order issued by the Director of School Education and unauthorized transfer order issued by the Deputy Inspector of Schools Kiphire.
Terming the actions of the authorities as arbitrary, it was pointed out that the USSC would not allow people at the grass-root level to be victimized by ‘weaknesses and cross negligence’ of the Education department.
Meanwhile, in a another development with regard to the proposed agitation on September 13 by students in Mon, the government has quickly moved in to save the situation by issuing the appointment order of teachers to be posted for the Government Higher Secondary School, Mon. It may be mentioned that students in Mon had threatened to go on agitation unless the government brought in more teachers to fill up the shortage of teaching staff.
