This was resolved with the declaration ‘No unity, no taxation,’ during an emergency meeting held by the KU with Konyak stakeholders at the KU conference hall on April 13 and 14.

The meeting saw participation of all the  Village Councils, Konyak Anghs, VDB Secretary, Village Guard, Goan Buras, KBBB, KNSK, Konyak Students’ Union, Konyak ex-parliamentarians, EX-MPs, Konyak Gazetted Officers’ Union, Konyak representatives to ENPO, Konyak Village Council Union, Mon District VDB Association, Mon district Dobashi Association, 15 KU Unit Branch, Konyak intellectuals, Konyak retired officers, representative from all the Naginimora town wards, Mon town wards, Tobu town wards, Tizit town wards, Aboi town wards along with the nine Konyak Elected representatives.

A press release from the KU President, S Howing and Press Secretary, Pangmei Konyak stated that since the beginning of the Naga movement, along with the rest of the Nagas, the Konyak tribe had “endorsed sovereignty/integrity to protect the people and its land and unwaveringly supported physically, mentally, materially, financially and in every possible way.”

“In spite of so much support and sacrifices, the Naga National Workers till date continue to split into numerous factions which has not only resulted in multiplying taxation burden  but it has also acted as an obstacle in achieving an honorable and acceptable early Naga solution,” the KU said.

Keeping in view of the “untold sufferings and harassment inflicted upon on account of multiple taxation by numerous NPGs;” the house unanimously decided through referendum and declared ‘No unity no taxation.” It further endorsed and also further endorsed all the village councils and KU branches to adhere to the referendum until further affirmation.

The KU appealed to all Naga political groups to “kindly recognize and understand the plight and sufferings of the common people and come together to a common conclusion with solidarity and in the spirit of forgiveness with a vision to pursue the general cause of the Nagas.”
