Nagaland School Education Principal Director, Shanavas C today said that the department cannot give an exact date for reopening of schools for lower classes in the state.

Talking to a section of media persons on the sidelines of an SCERT event in Kohima, the Principal Director said that reopening of schools for lower classes can be done in a phase wise manner. He however stated that the decision will be taken only by the High Powered Committee (HPC) on COVID-19.

On being asked about the department’s opinion on this matter, Shanavas said the department stand is that “we can start with classes 9 and 10 and see the situation and then go for other lower classes,” which was practiced last year also.

However, the decision for resumption of schools for lower classes rests with the HPC, he reiterated.

It may be noted that the Nagaland Governments has already allowed physical classes for students of classes 11 & 12.
