
2 bodies found, 2 others missing after landslide, flood Silchar, September 1 (PTI): Bodies of two women were found while as many members of the same family were still missing after being washed away in landslide and floods in Assam’s Cachar district, police said today. Four members of the family of Dipesh Lemrong - his wife, a daughter and two sons - were last night washed away when their house was damaged in a landslide following heavy rains in Kashiyapunji area of Bhubanpahar, about 35 km from here, a police officer said. The bodies of Lemrong’s wife and daughter were later found while those of his sons were still missing, the officer said adding seven houses were also washed away by heavy rains in nearby Bhubangram village. The NDRF has launched a rescue operation for the affected people. Police and civil officials were involved in rescue and relief operation at the spot, police added. Assam Rifles reviews security situation in Mizoram Aizawl, September 1 (NNN): Lieutenant General HJS Sachdev, PVSM, AVSM, SM, ADC, Director General Assam Rifles accompanied by Mrs Vandana Sachdev and Major General MV Chandran, YSM, SM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) visited Aizawl from 31 Aug to 01 Sep 16 to review the security situation along the international border with Myanmar. The Director General interacted with HE Lieutenant General Nirbhay Sharma (Retd) PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, Governor of Mizoram at Rajbhawan.During his visit to Rajbhawan, the General Officer discussed the security, development projects in the border areas and youth empowerment related issues concerning Mizoram with the Governor. The General officer has sanctioned 500 solar lamps for the village of Parva in Lawngtlai district. He also announced the installation of a 5 KVA Solar Power Plant project for Parva village. His visit clearly defines the concerns of Assam Rifles towards the State and in particular towards the “People of Mizoram” in tune with the Assam Rifles being “Friends of the Hill People”. One PLA cadre arrested In Manipur Imphal, September 1 (PTI): One militant belonging to outlawed People Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested in Manipur’s Thoubal district by a combined team of police commandos and AssamRifles jawans, a police official said. The militant who was arrested last evening from Khabakkhong near Wangjing, has been identified as Asem Lemba alias Indrajit (48) of Athokpam Mayai Leikai of Thoubal district, the offical said. Earlier he was arrested by police in 2010 while he was an active cadre of Kangleipak Communist Party(KCP) but was bailed out and he joined PLA recently. At present he is working under one Ibomcha of PLA and is involved in distributing demand letters to elected Pradhans of nearby areas in Thoubal district, the official source said. Some incriminating documents along with a mobile handset used by him were seized from his possession. Village council laments deplorable road in Senapati Senapati, September 1 (MExN): Shajouba Village Council has in a letter to the Executive Engineer, PWD Senapati division highlighted that the road stretch from Tadubi 0 km to 3 kms of Shajouba and beyond has been in deplorable condition due to the monsoon rain. The condition was made worse by the blockage of culvert and side drains. The letter issued by P. Hesho, Chairman, Shajouba Village Council, Senapati district stated that at the stretch before the approach road to Upper Shajouba and at the approach road, a huge chunk at the downhill side has slide with cracks which will cause further damages due to overflow of the drains and the trench cutting by BSNL for laying of cables. Meanwhile, the road below Lower Shajouba at 2 km is depressed due to accumulation of water, it added. It lamented that no PWD official has surveyed the deplorable inter-district Senapati and Ukhrul road and called upon the Executive Engineer to investigate the road and take most immediate action for the Mao and Paomai public.
