Northern Sumi orgs demand NAP outpost in border area

Dimapur, July 22 (MExN): The Northern Sumi Hoho (NSH) and Northern Sumi Students’ Union (NSSU) has demanded for “redeployment of NAP outpost which was withdrawn from nearby Aghautito village in 1972 to provide adequate security in the border area.”

Making the appeal to the Nagaland Chief Minister, the two organizations in a joint press release said that the Assam-Nagaland border tension which recently erupted at Vikuto village bordering to Assam has brought difficulties to the Nagas living in border belt, “since Assam police led by Rupjyoti Kumri MLA on May 27 entered Vikuto village and destroyed huts and aricanuts plantations and illegally establishing camp and encroached more than 2kms of land.”

The release signed by NSU President, Kughavi Chophy and General Secretary, Vikai Yeptho and NSSU President, Puloto G Awomi and General Secretary, P Samuel Chophy stated that the Government of Assam has failed to maintain in spirit multiple times, “the 1972 agreement which was signed between the Government of Assam and Nagaland to withdraw all its forces to maintain status quo in border belt area.”

As “stakeholders of Northern Sumi public”, the organizations appealed to the Nagaland CM to “take up necessary measures with Government of Assam to withdraw its police personal which had illegally established its camp at Vikuto village area, in order to avoid further escalation between the two states.”
