KOHIMA, MARCH 24 (MExN): The Nagaland Pensioners' Association (NPA) has objected to a recent press release issued by the AO (Pension) of the Accountant General's (AG) office in Nagaland, which stated that the special cell handling old pension cases could be closed at any time and urged pensioners and family pensioners to submit their claims by March 31. The AG office also noted that no old pension cases would be entertained beyond this deadline.
In response, the NPA stated that the announcement violates the provisions of the Central Civil Services (CCS) Pension Rules, 1972, and the Family Pension Rules, 1984. The association argued that there is no fixed time frame for pensioners to claim their benefits, as they are entitled to do so throughout their lifetime.
The NPA further contended that the AG office in Nagaland, as the issuing authority for pension payments, must continue processing old pension cases even in cases of significant delays. It maintained that denying such claims would be contrary to the provisions outlined in the pension rules.
The association has urged the AG office to uphold the existing pension regulations and ensure that pensioners’ rights are not curtailed.
