NPAW extends relief to Eastern Nagas hit by famine

Dimapur, November 7 (MExN): The Naga Political Analysis Wing (NPAW) WhatsApp/Facebook Forum, which comprises of Naga intellectuals, public leaders, and people from different walks of life, in collaboration with Nagalim Times and Southern Nagalim Facebook Forum undertook ‘Outreach Mission’ for the civilian victims of famine in Eastern Naga areas along Myanmar border.

NPAW Outreach Mission team began their journey in Kohima on November 1. The team handed over a cash amount of Rs. 1,10,000/- to official representatives of Naga Yoya, an apex Naga body in Myanmar, as a relief for the affected victims, said a press release from Administrator(s), NPAW WhatsApp/Facebook Forum. The money was donated from different quarters.

According to the release, the Naga Yoya representatives expressed their concern and untold problems faced by the Nagas in Myanmar.

The press release mentioned that more than 100 Naga villages in Myanmar have been severely affected by the food crisis. Main crops in the region had been damaged by insects, strong winds, hailstorms, floods and continued heavy rainfall etc, it pointed out.

“This problem is also well informed to the Government by its citizens, yet the government has failed to address this matter thereby leaving Naga people helpless without proper care or any aids from the government or NGOs and suffering so many untold problems particularly food crisis for the past two three months, which need immediate relief at this hour,” NPAW noted.

Therefore, NPAW has appealed to both Governments of India and Myanmar to put more attention on economic development of the region, while pointing out that the Nagas living in Myanmar still lack good communication, economy, and basic infrastructures.

The Outreach Mission team meanwhile expressed happiness to meet the Naga brethren living in Myanmar to breach the communication gap amongst the Nagas.
