DIMAPUR, NOV 16 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) while affirming that underground groups should not forget that the ultimate power lies with the people, has taken serious cognizance of what it termed as ‘total failure’ of the State Government in taking stock of the ongoing ‘Economic Blockade’ at Noklak and Chare, Tuensang district, by different underground groups.
The NPCC through a press statement issued by Hokheto Sumi, President, stated that the economic blockade at Noklak imposed by ‘the so-called National workers’ had gravely affected the common people due to acute shortage of essential commodities.
It alleged that the district administration instead stepping forward to rescue the people, “are sitting relaxed” on the excuse that there were sufficient essential commodities and that a similar situation had been created at Chare for almost a week by another group of national workers.
“National Workers should be working for the welfare and development of the people, but here the so-called National workers are trying to strangulate the innocent public by imposing economic blockades. How can they claim to be national workers by involving themselves in such undesirable activities?” the NPCC questioned adding it was astonishing that a free hand was being given to the underground elements to terrorize the people.
In this regard the NPCC hoped that the government would initiate immediate action to take stock of the situation and find measures to assist trucks bound for Tuensang to reach their destinations safely. “The people are watching the actions of all the groups.
The people have become more conscious and the underground groups should not forget that the ultimate power lies with the people” the NPCC affirmed while expressing hopes that the mindset of the people changes from the rule of gun to rule of law.
Meanwhile, the NPF stated that as far as law and order in the State was concerned, the DAN government had been exerting outmost effort and that except on “sporadic incidents”, crime rate had decreased drastically, according to a statement issued by R Paphino, Press secretary, NPF.
It cited an instance that during the Congress rule circa 2002 there were “1368” cases while the DAN government’s rule, 2004, saw only “324 cases”. In this regard the NPF asked why the Congress was ‘repeating its rhetoric of DAN’s failures on law and order’ while adding that the opposition Congress’ role was confined only to “putting fuel to the fire.”
The NPF asked the Congress to be objective and constructive rather than being subjective and destructive in dealing with issues pertaining to the people.
“We have to develop a sense of belonging and if they mean what they stood for, come forward and co-operate with the DAN government in doing good things for the people” the release stated.
