DIMAPUR, JANUARY 8 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today stated that the “time for action is now,” and the government must rise to the occasion to fulfill its obligations towards the Naga people, “as it has solemnly promised to do so.”
A press release from the NPCC President, Supongmeren Jamir said that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra “stands as a truly momentous movement, and we eagerly anticipate the enthusiastic participation of conscientious citizens who fervently advocate for equitable economic, social, religious and political rights that will pave the way for a more promising and sustainable future.”
It regretted that the current leadership in Nagaland has failed to acknowledge and address the genuine challenges faced by the people of Nagaland, particularly the youth. “Our youth yearn for inspiration to embrace and foster a just, dignified system of governance within our state. Such a pursuit can only be achieved when individuals entrusted with the responsibility to inspire others strictly adhere to the principles instilled by the divine creator - principles rooted in truthfulness, courage to do right and unwavering accountability,” the Congress said.
Only by embodying these virtuous qualities can we construct a stable and righteous foundation for the progress of our dynamic society, it added. The NPCC criticized the current government’s “negligence towards addressing the pressing matter of the Naga Political Solution,” and said “it appears as though the government has conveniently forgotten the promises it made to the electorate during the elections.”
“While the leadership may assume that the people are oblivious to these promises, the reality of the issues faced by the citizens paints a contrasting picture. It is high time that the government refrains from toying with the sacred sentiments of the Naga people. Instead, they ought to exhibit the courage and conviction necessary to deliver a clear and acceptable solution to the intricate Naga political issue,” the NPCC stated.
It observed that at present, the Naga community finds itself divided due to the “unethical and avaricious practices of certain political leaders.” These individuals place their personal gain and business ventures above the greater good of the Naga people, it lamented.
The NPCC termed it crucial for the government to demonstrate integrity and prioritize the interests of the people over their own political ambitions. “A genuine commitment to resolving this political quandary would not only restore faith in the government's credibility but also foster unity and progress within the Naga community,” it said.
