NPCC demands removal of ‘Disturbed Area’ tag

Kohima, November 28 (MExN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today stated that the extension of notification declaring Nagaland as ‘Disturbed Area’ by the Central government is “not necessary as the situation is largely peaceful and the GoI is engaged in peaceful and inclusive negotiations with Naga political groups.”

The Government of India, it stated, “should do away with the double standard of engaging in peaceful negotiations on one hand and on the other imposing the ‘Disturbed Area’ tag on Nagaland, if it is serious about finding solution to the Naga political problem.”

NPCC in a statement from its Media Cell further supported the demand for removal of ‘Disturbed Area’ tag on Nagaland “in view of peaceful and inclusive ongoing talks.”

Meanwhile, NPCC welcomed the recent judgment of the High Court directing the State government to hike the salary of Village Guards from existing Rs. 1500/- to 15,000/- per month. The State government should honour the judgment of the High Court without further delay, it stated.
