NPCC ‘disturbed’ by interim bail for Imchen

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 21 (MExN): The NPCC is “greatly disturbed” by the interim bail granted to Imkong L. Imchen for 7 days on medical grounds by the District and Session Judge, Wokha. The NPCC through a press note stated that since the circumstances of “his arrest suggest how criminal-minded the accused is” granting bail would allow him “to act freely during this sensitive times of the approaching polling days.” to react in “a more dreadful manner against the State law enforcing agencies as well as his political opponents.”

The NPCC further said that it was “shameful” on the part of the NPF party workers to accord a “rousing welcome” to Imchen and stated this reveals how “ill motivated the NPF cadres are.” It pointed out that Imchen had deliberately ignored the “laws of the land,” including the Election Code of Conduct. The NPCC has further urged the District Administration of Mokokchung to deploy every possible security arrangements in Koridang A/C in particular, to prevent any “untoward incidents.”

The NPCC while appreciating the Election Commission for writing to the Bureau of Civil Aviation and Financial Intelligence Unit in regard to conducting inquiries in relation to the “recent seizures” in Nagaland has urged the Commission to expedite the necessary inquiries and initiate prompt action as per the provisions of the law. The NPCC has also requested the National Investigative Agency (NIA) to immediately take over the investigation against Imkong Imchen. It further appealed to the President of India to strictly direct law enforcing agencies to strengthen security arrangements for peaceful conduct of polling on February 23.
