Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has pulled up State Home Minister Thenucho for making what they called “irresponsible statement” on law and order situation, and has asked the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to initiate action against him or get blame for sharing the same statement.
Pradesh Congress President, Hokheto speaking to the media today alleged that Thenucho has been making contradictory statements on the prevailing law and order situation in the State. “At one point of time, the Home Minister ruled out any law and order problem, at another point of time he expresses helplessness over the deteriorating law and order situation, while shifting the blame on the Indo-Naga political conflict,” Hokheto said.
The NPCC Chief came down heavily on the Home Minister questioning that if the state government is not responsible for curbing the law and order problem then who should be held responsible for it. He also said that when civilians are being killed and the violence arising out of the factional feuds are rampant in the civilian areas it will be self- defeating for the state government to rule out deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Congress termed the Home Minister’s statement as the denigration of authority reposed on him by the people of the state and sternly demanded that the Chief Minister initiate action against Thenucho. If the CM fails he is also part of the Home Minister’s statement, said Congress President.
Hokheto said that the state government should have a contingency plan to contain the prevailing law and order problem in the state. He also said that it is not necessary for the state government to completely stick to the ceasefire ground rules to deal with the law and order problem erupting out of the factional clashes. Even in the ceasefire ground rules there are certain clause which provide scope to deal with the deteriorating law and order problem, Hokheto added.
Congress also charged the Home Minister of making irresponsible statement against the 9th IRB personnel. The Home Minister statement that government has no obligation to anyone who doesn’t want to join the force, or to keep the disgruntled personnel and has enough men to fill the vacancies if it arise out of desertion or resignation of the jawans is not so pleasing enough for the ear, the Congress said.
