NPCC wants Karnataka Governor’s action be replicated in Nagaland

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has also joined the opposition parade to censure the political confusion in Karnataka. NPCC chief K. Therie addressing a press conference in Dimapur today contended that the same yardstick – ‘inviting the single largest party to form the government’ – be also replicated in the Northeast to allow the Congress in Manipur and Meghalaya and the NPF in Nagaland to form the government.

By virtue of being the single largest party, “the Congress should have been given the opportunity in Manipur, Meghalaya, Goa and why not NPF here in Nagaland?” said Therie.

Alleging the Karnataka Governor of acting “unlawfully and unconstitutionally” at the behest of the BJP Parliamentary Committee, he said, “Nagaland Congress also joins the nation in condemning the action of the Karnataka governor and also the BJP govt in the Centre.”

On the bye-election to the vacant Lok Sabha seat, Therie said that the Congress has proposed “a secular front combined opposition candidate” with the NPF to which the latter agreed “in principle.” “However after few days without further discussion, NPF declared and selected C. Apok Jamir as NPF candidate.”

Terming the NPF’s backtracking as “betrayal of trust,” he said that the Congress has nevertheless decided to support the candidature of Jamir to fend off the threat the NDPP-BJP combine poses to secularism.

Therie further quoted NPF chief Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu severing all ties with the NDA and the NEDA. With regard to the allegiance of the state’s Rajya Sabha member, he said that Dr. Liezietsu has directed the RS Member to officially withdraw support to the NDA.
