Dimapur, January 29 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has welcomed the proposed minimum income guarantee announced by Congress President Rahul Gandhi yesterday if voted to power.
NPCC President K Therie in a release today stated that the programme will leave a lasting impact on crores of Indians. “The next generation social policy will eliminate extreme poverty and hunger both amongst rural and urban dwellers as it will fill the vacuum in urban areas left by MGNREGA,” it said.
The President also added that it will guarantee every household below the poverty line, whether urban or rural, a minimum level of income to raise their living standards. “Its implementation will thereby not only guarantee a basic standard of living to all citizens of the nation but also ensure that every household will be able to afford food.”
“The commitment of the Congress Party towards poverty eradication and redistribution of resources for inclusive growth has once again been reiterated in the backdrop of MGNREGA which has been acknowledged by the United Nations as one of the best poverty alleviation schemes globally,” the release pointed.
It further feted its party stating that it not only has the “vision and commitment to announce such a scheme but also the political will to implement it and include the poor in the growth of the nation.”
It added that Rahul Gandhi’s vision for the nation’s poor as well as the anticipated revival of consumption led growth will have a positive impact on the nation’s economy.
