Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate for Lok Sabha bye-election, C. Apok Jamir today made a fervent appeal to the public of Phek district to actively participate in the forthcoming polls scheduled for May 28. Jamir sought the active participation of the voters “so that we will win.”

If elected, Apok said he would “speak against communal forces, protect Naga identity, and also to work for overall development of the state.”

While addressing Lok Sabha bye-election campaign rally organized by Campaign Committee NPF Phek Division at Pfutsero, Jamir said that he would also raise Naga political issue in the Parliament. For solution to decades-long Naga political issue, a true representative of the Naga people and backed by the oldest regional political party like Naga People’s Front (NPF) will stand us in good stead in Parliament, he said. Jamir said Naga culture, traditions and customs denote our identity and for which we are recognized the world over although we are relatively of a lesser population.

Apok expressed his reservation regarding the agenda of the ruling NDPP- BJP government which keeps harping on the slogan “Together with all, Development for all” (Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas). He said despite this slogan along with PDA’s “Change is coming”, he said the PDA government will fall down after 2019 general election in India.

“Therefore, we must study well as to what kind of change is coming,” he said.

He said the voting statistics in the recently concluded state assembly elections indicate mostly in favour of NPF.

MLA Yitachu appealed the people to cast their votes in favour of Apok “to defend our rights, to our identity and to defend our faith.” We have to win and that is possible when our NPF candidate is given the mandate with thumping majority, he said.

MLA Chotisuh Sazo maintained that Apok has vast experience and he can convey political aspirations of Naga people. Stating that NPF have fielded Apok to protect secularism and democracy, Sazo requested the people to come together and make him victorious in the best interest of the Nagas.

NPF working president Apong Pongener said the NDPP instead of propagating its policies and programme to the people, they have been targeting Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, TR Zeliang and NPF party during the election campaign. He said the PDA government doesn’t have plans to deliver goods to the Naga people. He was hopeful that Phek district would gift highest vote percentage to Apok in this forthcoming bye- election.

NPF Phek division president Chivotso Nienu requested the party workers to reach out to the grassroot level and convey the importance and the need to vote for NPF candidate. MLA Kezhienyi Khalo, ex-NLA speaker Thenucho and NPCC president K Therie also addressed the rally.
